SEO Checklist for Businesses in Ghana
Search visibility starts with useful pages that people can find, understand and trust. This checklist helps you audit a business website without shortcuts that risk search penalties.
Reviewed 29 October 2026 · For business owners, marketing teams and project managers
1. Confirm indexing and ownership
Verify your domain in Google Search Console and check whether important pages are indexed. Submit a sitemap with canonical, publicly accessible URLs. Use the URL Inspection tool for pages that are unexpectedly missing.
Audit both www and non-www versions, ensure there is one preferred address, and check that server redirects point consistently to that version. Private dashboards, staging and login pages should not be indexed.
- Search Console domain property verified
- Public sitemap submitted and monitored
- Canonical host, HTTPS and redirects tested
- Private and duplicate pages excluded appropriately
2. Make each important page genuinely useful
Build separate pages for distinct services that deserve their own explanation. Describe what is included, who benefits, how delivery works, typical questions and next steps. Avoid automatically generating dozens of near-identical town or keyword pages.
Write a unique title and description that accurately summarize the page. Use a natural main heading and descriptive subheadings, and add genuinely helpful supporting examples.
- Distinct user intent for each service page
- Clear main heading and readable structure
- Accurate title and page description
- No keyword stuffing or copied text
3. Improve local-business trust signals
Keep your legal trading name, office address, phone number, opening hours and website consistent on your own site and external business profiles. If you operate more than one verified office, show each office separately rather than alternating addresses between pages.
Claim and maintain eligible Google Business Profiles and relevant professional directories. Ask real clients for honest reviews without incentives tied to positive ratings.
- Business contact details reconciled
- Genuine location profile claimed where eligible
- Current service categories, hours and photos
- Consistent business data across reputable listings
4. Build navigation and internal links
Visitors should reach your main services within a few clicks from the homepage. Link between related services, real case studies, clear educational resources and the relevant enquiry flow. Use link labels that explain what the destination offers.
Review orphaned articles and pages with no incoming internal links; either connect them to a helpful journey, consolidate duplicates or retire irrelevant pages appropriately.
- All priority pages linked from navigation or hubs
- Contextual links between related topics
- Descriptive anchor text
- No broken links or redirect chains
5. Strengthen performance, images and accessibility
Test the site on a realistic mobile connection. Reserve dimensions for images and video, limit blocking scripts, use efficient image formats and accessible form labels. Measure Core Web Vitals using field data when available, rather than assuming a single lab score predicts business results.
- Mobile layout and real-device testing
- Useful alt text on informative images
- Image sizes and loading behavior checked
- Core Web Vitals and accessible navigation reviewed
6. Earn links through reputation and useful assets
Publish original templates, field guides, technical explainers or case studies that another organisation would legitimately want to cite. Share them with relevant business associations, partners, customers and journalists when they genuinely match the topic.
Prioritise editorial relevance and real referral traffic; avoid buying ranking links, mass guest posts, automated directory blasts or exact-match anchor schemes. Paid placements should be labeled correctly.
- One worthwhile resource published per quarter
- Verified profiles on relevant professional sites
- Client-approved case studies and partner mentions
- Outreach and referral traffic tracked without fabricated links
7. Review outcomes regularly
Check organic impressions, clicks, useful landing pages, enquiry conversions, indexing errors and local profile actions. Compare with previous periods and adjust pages where search intent and customer needs have changed.
- Search Console performance reviewed monthly
- Lead sources tracked with consent where needed
- Meaningful conversions defined
- Content freshness and broken links reviewed
